Better contrast in menus than when reading
Why is the contrast in the pop up menus so good? I'd much prefer to have that white background that is present when you hit the OPTIONS button for reading--not just for changing settings. Seems a serious waste of ability. When reading an ebook I feel like the background just isn't very white, and hinders low light reading. Is there an explanation for this? I tried searching the forum but this is a difficult one to word for a search.

Fonts used in popup menus is bigger / bolder.
Try to increase font size to menu levels and then compare. It's highly unlikely that background in books isn't white when reading (unless you are reading scans) |

it is also an optical illusion, like how the text appears to have more contrast on models with dark-colored cases. To verify yourself, create a pdf document with 2 pages, the first page with just the text, the second page with the same text in a box surrounded by a dimmed gray background.

You can use Adjust View in the options menu. If you choose custom and set the first to +75 and the second to -75 you get a darker and slightly thicker font. It's not as thick as a bold font, but seems just as dark.
