Setting where Amazon does not change cover

I cannot figure out how to change settings for this. I always leave automatic book updates turned off, so that is not the issue. Covers in my library have been changing the past 2 months, I notice when browsing, they are reverting to newer editions of covers, which in many cases I do not want. Any suggestions? At first I thought it was my imagination, but no, I keep double checking and I know some of these books were not placed on device with this cover art.

For books obtained from Amazon (or with fake metadata that makes them appear to be) the cover thumbnail shown in the library is the marketing cover currently associated with the book, not the cover at the time you purchased it.

Really? That bites. I hate some of the covers they are replacing with, including a recent updated "movie cover". I cannot access my calibre right now due to a hard drive issue I'm trying to work on when I have the spare time. I swear it's changed at least one sideloaded book too where I had chosen a cover art I enjoyed. I didn't notice this issue before - how irritating.

And with my automatic book updates turned off, it's frustrating they are apparently still updating it with cover changes now whenever I turn on Wi-fi. Argh.

I use the text only book display, and entering a book goes to the "start" point, not the cover. I never see covers unless I go out of my way to do so.
