Sony Reader Give-away on Ellen!

From the Amazon forums.

I haven't seen it so I don't know if it's an Oprah type focus show or just a give-away.

Just turned on the TV, Ellen is doing her daily Christmas giveaways, today she was giving away the Sony reader. More publicity for e-books, which is a good thing in my book!

Ah, great marketing strategy for Sony. Sony's answer to Oprah. Ellen has excellent viewership in terms of numbers.

Oprah always seems more of a Kindle type person to me.

It's a nice thing that Ellen did ... doing a giveaway like that. It would be even better for the Sony if she endorsed it in the way Oprah did the Kindle.

Also, unless there was some sort of show devoted to the Sony, I don't see a giveaway as having the same marketing impact that the Oprah endorsement gave the Kindle.

However, I suspect that the Oprah endorsement could be a good thing for the ebook reader industry in general. There are going to be people who are going to be interested in ebooks, but (for whatever reason) aren't going to like the Kindle. And, those people will (we hope) purchase another ebook reader and put some more bucks into the ebook industry.

Hi I saw one article on Informationweek.com..
that,
Quote:
"Winfrey's endorsement of the Kindle could lead to more than just a sales boost. It could go a long way toward moving the Kindle to the mainstream from a niche market."
Whether it is totally true that kindle has really entered the mainstream market?

Looks like on Day 1 the package included a Sony Reader and on day six the package included a Kindle.
