Cailibre 3.46 does not write Kindle Oasis

I have downloaded and installed the binary Calibre 3.46 after having successfully used Calibre + Oasis Kindle for some time. Problem is now that I can import books into my library, convert them, view them but not transfer to my Oasis.

According to that books are being transferred fine, you just aren't able to run the viewer for books on the device. Just view them directlyon the device itself. And this will likely be because the Linux kernel developers recently broke file operations for kindles https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203973

calibre has a workaround for that kernel bug but the workaround has not been applied tested for viewing books ont he device. I encourage you to pester the kernel developers to implement the proper fix I already told them about.

Big problem and I can see your frustration in dealing with this issue in the bug report.

I have spread the word to the Slackware -current community who have moved into kernel 4.19.62 just now so most calibre / Kindle users in the development version of Slackware will be feeling the pinch...

viewing books on my kindle paperwhite does continue to work for me though. And as far as I know there are no fsyncs in that code path, so the kernel bug should not apply.

Thanks very much for pointing out the issue! I have done a few small things:

To get my Kindle + Calibre back to full action I have compiled a newer kernel (5.2.5) with the kernel change reversed. Not a long term solution but my system is now back to normal.
Added a note to a forum where the Slackware developer reviews posts. This will raise the profile of this issue a little more at least...
Subscribed to the kernel bug report so I will be cc'd with any changes + be involved in any testing of fixes

In terms of solving the issue this is not much help, for which my apologies. And again thanks for Calibre and your prompt responses on these Forums

Now back to actually reading my Kindle!

And this will likely be because the Linux kernel developers recently broke file operations for kindles https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203973 calibre has a workaround for that kernel bug but the workaround has not been applied tested for viewing books ont he device. I encourage you to pester the kernel developers to implement the proper fix I already told them about.
