My problem is the image on the MAX2 is so small, that I can't read on the screen. The only solution is to use a ENORMOUS size of font and put the window on the area used by the Max2.
That's what I would recommend: set the DPI at some value between around 160 and 200 - which is by the way simply faithful to the fact that you are around 210.
It's the expected configuration.

EDIT: although: is the trouble that you are extending the desktop (1 LCD and 1 EPD)? In this case, it would be nice to be able to set the DPI per monitor.

Hello Mdp,

I'm not sure to understand how to do that or your explication.

The main monitor is connected with the VGA port. The Max2 is connected to the HDMI-1 port.

For the moment, I've made this tests :
Quote:
xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2104 x 1560, maximum 8192 x 8192
HDMI-1 connected 2104x1560+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 2104mm x 1560mm
2104x1560 32.98*+
720x480i 120.00 119.88
HDMI-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP-1 connected primary 1680x1050+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 433mm x 271mm
1680x1050 59.95*+
1600x1200 60.00
1280x1024 75.02 60.02
1440x900 59.89
1280x960 60.00
1152x864 75.00
1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00
832x624 74.55
800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 56.25
640x480 75.00 72.81 66.67 59.94
720x400 70.08
HDMI-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
With the following commands, the Max2 is frozen :
Quote:
$ xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 720x480i --rate 119.88
$ xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 720x480i --rate 120.00
But with the following, the Max2 is not frozen :
Quote:
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 2104x1560 --rate 32.98
For my main monitor, the following command is good :
Quote:
$ xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1280x1024 --rate 75.02
I've looked here too https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xrandr

I continue to search how modify the DPI value.

Note that xrandr also has a "scale" parameter. But that should give an unneedly blurry output.

The DPI setting is part of XFCE. You should find it in the settings GUI

Check
Settings > Appearance > Fonts > Custom DPI settings
and
Settings > Appearance > Style → High contrast

Thanks ! I've found the settings, but it's not very useful because if I can read on the Max2, the font is too big on the LCD screen as you can see on the pictures : Max2/LCD and screen configuration taken on the Max2.

It could be interesting to can change the DPI value or resolution only for one screen...

Yes, as I expressed in the edit («per monitor»). But the quick search I did - also in the XFCE forum - only revealed the xrandr trick.

Maybe some way to change the setting per workspace?

Randy, have you tried commands like
Code:
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --scale 1.72x1.72
?

Check
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HiDPI

As expressed, one's best configuration for using multiple monitors of different density could be: different DPI per workspace. But I have not found information on how to do that (I am not sure it's possible).

I've missed your reply

In my case, with a lower resolution for my LCD monitor, to have a zoom effect on the Max2 :
Quote:
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --scale 0.58x0.58 # My preferred
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --scale 0.66x0.66
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --scale 0.70x0.70
For a scale 1 :
Quote:
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 2104x1560
xrandr --output HDMI-1 --scale 1x1

Hello my friend. Yes, I found a way. I installed Wiredxdisplay from splashtop ( there is a free version for testing, and also installed the server on OSx high sierra). Results are great, I can finally use the onyx boox as a secondary display at an acceptable speed. It uses the usb question rather than wifi so it's quite fast.

How does it compare to a VNC based solution?
A VNC server on your desktop computer, bVNC from I. Iordanov on the Note, and unfortunately a wireless connection until Onyx enables USB tethering.

Much much faster than wireless vnc. This is basically wired vnc and is using the speed of the usb capable. Because my Macbook Pro is old I am using USB 2.0 speed I imagine it can be faster if I use USB 3.0.

Wireless VNC was unusable due to LAG.

Wiredxdisplay is usable and I can write on it and it feels like a 24hz monitor.

Sorry for the bad video I was excited and did it very quickly. I will make another video soon in better quality.

USB2 should be nominal 480Mbit/s (60 MB/s)
802.11n could be, very grossly, 50Mbit/s (6MB/s)
So, I would say that it stands.

I believe that the data exchange is through serial though, because I suspect that to set a TCP/IP network through rndis0 you require root privileges, you cannot just establish it through a software application.

Nonetheless, when stress-testing VNC I could not go beyond 15MB/s, so you should have plenty of bandwidth with USB2, even going from that nominal value to its half after overheads etc. No need for USB3.

Hi MDP,

is there any way to turn off the partial update in grayscale mode in your monitor app?

I really want to use the grayscale mode without the flashing/partial update and then I will do a full screen update manually when I need.

Hi,
the "Monitor" app is not "mine", it comes from Onyx, I just patched it to proactively temporarily fix a few shortcomings.

If for "partial update" you mean that "flashing" which is that new shapes are rendered by making dots white, then black, then grey as needed - that is how the GU "waveform" works. It would not be as precise if it did not do that. And I think it does implement the "Regal" variation, which already minimizes the flashing and ghosting.

Just a heads up: I used Max 2 as external monitor via HDMI and was very positively surprised!

New here.
I am thinking of getting Boox Max 2 for reading and coding. And I want to know more about the product, like input latency resolution etc. Can anyone share some thoughts on these?
Also, can anyone summarize any patches put up on this forum? I heard that there is a patch on using touch screen while in monitor mode. Is the tablet coming with the patch installed or do I need to do other thing?
If possible, can anyone summarize some useful discussion here or point me to a wiki page?
Thanks a TON!
