Hi everyone. How can I produce a file with AZW extension using kindlegen?

You can't. The only tool I know of that produces AZW3 files is Calibre. You could always rename the KindleGen file, though, should you wish to, but can KindleGen create pure KF8 files?

You can generate mobi and then unpack it using KindleUnpack tool. You'll got azw3 as desired.

No. Kindlegen generates mobi file, which contains the following sections: azw, azw3 and sources. But it's possible to extract azw3 from mobi. Resulting azw3 file will be much smaller then mobi.

The other way to get azw3 from mobi is to send mobi file to kindle device through Send to Kindle service.
