"50% increase in contrast" implies E Ink Pearl display.

I think it looks odd because it's a bit squat, wider than we've seen before. I'm surprised they didn't cut the price a bit.
Edit: Also, i just realized the top bezel is wider than the bottom. That's a bit unusual. Last edited by carld; 05-24-2011 at 10:30 AM. |

New Nook starts shipping June 10th, available for pre-order now.
Lynch says B&N is looking into international opportunities ("lots of interest from folks abroad for their devices") but nothing to announce today. Touchscreen, as expected, uses Neonode infrared technology. Same technology is in Sony Readers and new Kobo. Device runs on Android 2.1. New feature: FastPage allows you to zoom forward in book. Next month launching MyNook, site for sharing with friends. Built-in WiFi, no 3G. Shopping experience has been upgraded on device. 6 different fonts, 7 different sizes. Original Nook pricing is now $119 and $169 (for 3G version) until supplies last. New Nook, 6-inch Pearl e-ink touch-screen, 7.5 ounces, battery life up to 2 months, built-in Wi-Fi (no 3G), $139, available June 10. Last edited by Anarel; 05-24-2011 at 10:45 AM. |

Persnonally, for the price, I don't care that it has only Wi-Fi.
Right now this eReader just dominates the Kindle at the same price: Kindle, not touch screen and I sounds like the new nook has a better processor. To me the new Nook is superior at the same price point as the Kindle. |

The ball is in Amazon's court to be sure. I'm curious to see how fast they react.

Right now this is a great time to be in the market for an eReader. Competition is great!!

That said, if I were living in the USA, I'd be tempted to jump for this new Nook Simple Touch over anything else, including a K3. Will be interesting to see future Kindle models. Last edited by viviena; 05-24-2011 at 10:38 AM. |

I'm interested in see the page turning demo. It claims 80% less flashing. that would be really really nice.

Because I don't care about having a user-replaceable battery. I've never had to replace the battery on any ereader or recent electronic device.
But people are going to buy this anyway and all the talk of the Nook being superior to the Kindle b/c of ability to replace the battery will just disappear. ** Ohh, more info: Original Nook pricing is now $119 and $169 (for 3G version) until supplies last. |

I don't see where the battery not being user replacable is that big of a deal. By time the battery goes out you will likely be looking to by the next new model anyway.

Device will be obsolete by the time it would need a new battery.
