I believe that send to device or save to diskwill do it.
I cannot check on calibre because it is busy doing database integrity check

The caveat is that you probably have to save to disk or send to device (with a folder being the device) then re-add books to calibre with get from filename only checked.
But maybe not.
Do one book and then when you have it how you want it it is simple to do the rest

Mothers are mothers the world over.
My big plan to achieve my annual quota of pain is to teach my mother to use calibre when she visits in the fall.
A pretty steep learning curve perhaps at 85 but learning keeps the brain from dying IMO.
Actually I am looking forward to her getting an ereader as she is worried about losing her vision(hopefully needlessly) and she will be very excited about larger fonts and read-to-me capabilities.
As I am sure you know, the only thing nicer than getting a new toy is getting someone you love a new toy that you know they will love.

This only seems to order the file names, and as far as I can tell, this has no bearing on the ordering in the Kindle

EDIT: Actually, I may be mistaken... I think if you then sort by Author it works... Just going to test with another series now...

EDIT2: Nope

Mom is reading direct from my library via the Content Server to her giant flatscreen TV/monitor. She already knows how to browse, and I put her on FireFox a long time ago, so I walked her through installing EPUBReader. She can increase font size as needed to zoom in and compensate for poor vision. Within a few weeks she'd installed Calibre for it's conversion capabilities and asked me to write some new recipes (you have her to thank for the new builtins: The Skeptic and Skeptical Inquirer, plus an updated Nature Magazine).

Okay, so, i *think* I've got it to work...

You need to set the Published date in descending order (with the month descending, as well as the year), first book most recent date AND have the folder sorting with a preceeding series order

This combo seems to work...

The other date field seems to make no difference.
Also, if changing books that are already on the device, you need to remove them, unplug the device so it can refresh, and then re-copy them...

Just going to double test this now, but seems to work

EDIT: YES - i can confirm this works

Thanks for all the help!!!

In Calibre, Edit the Metadata button and change the date the book was published. The first book in the series should have the most recent date. I also add numbers to the title. It looks like this.

Book A (#1) - Aug 2010 (make this your starting date) - oldest book
Book B (#2) - July 2010
Book C (#3) - June 2010
Book D (#4) - May 2010 (last book in the series ends up the earliest date)

When you add these books to your collection, they will line up in the correct order #1-#4

You don't have to add the numbers to the title. Personal choice, I like to see them with the numbers.

Also I don't change the publishing date until AFTER I have downloaded the metadata because if you change publishing dates before, when you download the metadata it will put the correct publishing date and you have done a lot of work for nothing.

Sounds like you made chilady1's solution work for you. Excellent tip about removing the books and resending them.

Thanks for confirming the solution.

I just manually do it for each book, it sucks but then the books are always grouped together perfectly on my kindle.

What are the chances of Calibre supporting collections in the Kindle? This is the only thing that I really miss!

EDIT: I just read this and I see why they are not supported. However, in my opinion a reboot is not really too bad of an issue (with me). I mean it would still be a lot faster for users than having them go through their entire book collection by hand on their Kindle.
