Difference between mobi-asin and amazon?

I notice a lot of my books have the original mobi-asin number and once you fetch metadata with Calibre, Calibre adds amazon number as well... which is identical to mobi-asin. Why the duplication? Is there any difference between the two?

mobi-asin comes from the book, amazon from the metadata download process. They need not be the same.
