Kindelabra: Kindle Collection Manager

Hey everyone, I just want to say that this site is a fantastic resource and I've been coming here for tips on playing with my Kindle 3 since day one. I wanted to let you all know that I've finished writing Kindelabra, my Kindle collection manager written in Python. I've spent a lot of time making it simple to use, yet very powerful and hope it will be useful to everyone.

Check it out! There's a version on my site for Windows users. If you try the program, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a quick PM saying whether or not the program ran/worked for you.

http://www.richardpeng.com/projects/kindelabra/

Latest Updates:
2010/12/05:
- disable collection expanding when adding book
2010/12/03:
- Topaz metadata support (code from Calibre, GRiker's code, NiLuJe's patch)
- Kindlet metadata support (NiLuJe)
2010/12/02:
- better ASIN detection (NiLuJe)
- better metadata error handling
2010/11/26:
- version 0.2: support for DRM-d books
2010/11/22:
- windows installer for GTK+
- hotkeys: Ctrl+N (New), Ctrl+E (Edit), Ctrl+O (Open), Ctrl+S (Save)
- add collection now highlights and scrolls to the new collection to make it easier to immediately start adding books to the new collection
- enter key adds new collection
- delete collection confirmation
2010/11/19:
- added button tooltips
- checks for existing collection before adding a new collection
- fixed creation of unicode collections
- added support for unicode filenames

Well done. Hoping one day someone will do something similar for Mac users.

It looks brilliant, thank you. I can't wait to give it a try this evening.

Is there no way of organising Collections using Calibre onto the Kindle?

Perhaps your script could be incorporated somehow into Calibre as a plugin?

Looks interesting and thanks for your efforts. Will give it a try as soon as possible. A few basic install and run steps would help I'm sure since this forum has such a mixed audience.

Thanks and karma to you.

Thanks for the input, Leep. I've added instructions for using the program on my web site. For Windows users, unzip the download and run Kindelabra.exe.

Very Interesting

It runs fine on Windows 7 Home version.

It would help to have some more guidance on the various options, such as:

Use the diskette icon to save the changes back to the Kindle

Click (and hold) on the Files to select the drive letter for the Kindle

Warning - the solid line icon will delete a selected Collection

and so forth.

I installed the windows zip somewhere and run Kindelabra.exe

It told me "Errors occurred" and to see Kindelabra.exe.log for details.

Here it is:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "Kindelabra.py", line 8, in <module>
File "gtk\__init__.pyc", line 40, in <module>
File "gtk\_gtk.pyc", line 12, in <module>
File "gtk\_gtk.pyc", line 10, in __load
ImportError: DLL load failed: Die angegebene Prozedur wurde nicht gefunden.

(the last sentence tranlates to "the named procedure could not be found")

And I really don't know where the gtk subdir should come from.
There is a library.zip in the folder which has such a directory, but extracting this one also to the kndelabra dir does not help, same message,
