Rudy Rucker's Pamphlet on e-Book Creation

Today, while trawling on That Darned Internet for nonspecific pointers on e-book creation, I chanced on this series by SF writer, mathematician and computer scientist, Rudy Rucker.

Article 2 in the series

Some of the material is outdated (the book was published on May 10, 2012) and much of it familiar, but I find the style, and the fact that Rucker took the time to write about this, rather fun.

His entire formatted pamphlet

Note that there's one price for both the epub and mobi versions if you buy them from Rucker's store, and that the files are directly downloadable, which means you can check his formatting in both versions. I didn't really need the book, but I did spring for $1.95 because I was curious to see what he did.

I haven't done any real creation in a long time, since BookCreator won't install on Windows 7 for me.
You've piqued my curiousity, maybe I'll spring for it myself, and see if it's time to start scanning and playing around again.

Interestingly, Mr. Rucker seems to have had a problem adding a cover to his epub edition. The cover is shown within the actual book, but the book is represented on my Aura HD as the first page of text after the cover.

I didn't send it through Calibre because I wanted to experience the unaltered file created by the author. Even so, I added it to Calibre afterward to see whether there was a difference. There, too, the book's cover appeared to be the first page of text.
