KUAL: Kindle Unified Application Launcher (v2.7)

Hi, my KUAL showed an Application Error "The selected application could not be started. Please try again." message after my KPW32GB updated to 5.9.4 (3278740046). I added KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 into my documents folder as well as processing Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install.bin within the packages folder. It seems that the Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install.bin doesn't work for my Paperwhite.

My Paperwhite's serial number starts with G090LL, and after putting Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.14_nomax_install.bin within the packages folder and running ;log mrpi the following message is found within the log.

No, you are just not using the correct KUAL booklet package.
The message:
Package 'Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install.bin' (KUALBooklet v2.7 I) is not targeting your device
Means exactly what it says.

Where did you get the KUAL archive that contained the package you where trying?
Try the one found here:

Try that one and report back.

Why did you take apart the Update_jailbreak_hotfix_1.14_nomax_install.bin ?
Just install the entire package.
It is a special packaging, does not require MrPI, put at highest visible level of USB storage, then use UYK.

Thanks knc1! The updated KUAL booklet worked! I can't remember where I got the older version from, but it must have been somewhere within the mobileread forums. I am now able to launch KUAL, and these are the latest entries within the mrinstaller.log

Hi, after a firmware update to version 5.9.4, KPW3 (G090 ..) no longer runs KUAL (The selected application could not be started. Please try again.). If I put the Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.2_install.bin in the root folder of my kindle, disconnect it from my PC and try an update from the KPW3 menu, the update option is not active and the file (Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.2_install.bin) gets deleted. I also tried to manually delete the old KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 from Documents folder.
So how do I update the KUAL?

You have to use MrPI to install our packages.

I still do not know how to install MrPI (kual-mrinstaller-1.6.N-r14394.tar.xz). It looks like a KUAL extension that I can not run if I do not first start KUAL.

I am not an active member, I was a litle just in the beginning. A year ago, when I bought KPW3, I just had to put the firmware 5.7.4, install JailBreak-1.14.N-FW-5.x-hotfix and then Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install. Now looks a little more complicated.

Back in the days of 5.7.x, PW3 devices supported active content.
Now they do not support active content and you must use the booklet form of KUAL.

MrPI IS a KUAL extension, all you have to do is unpack the archive to USB storage, preserving the folder structure of the archive.

Run it by:
;log mrpi

My memo:

To fix it I added KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw2 into 'documents' folder (from the USB storage) as well as Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7_install.bin within the 'mrpackages' folder (these are from the 'KUAL' package found here: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=225030)
I also unpacked the archive 'MR Package Installer' (found on the same page) to USB storage, preserving the folder structure of the archive.
Then run it by writing in the Kindle's search bar:
;log mrpi
Then hit return from the Kindle's keyboard

Now KUAL is working again. Thank you!

You can delete the KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw file from /documents because that is the one which no longer works.

It will leave a thumbnail of itself on the main page, but ignore it for now (or hide it in a collection).
That left-over image is a known problem.

Kindle Voyage, Firmware Version 5.9.5. Just to confirm that JB survives. KUAL and USBNetwork installed by ;log mrpi work fine.

I may be doing something wrong, but just updated to 5.9.5.1 from 5.9.4 on my Kindle Voyage (B054). ;log mrpi no longer launches -- tried reinstalling the extensions from NiLuJe's tools -- still no luck. Everything worked fine on 5.9.4. Any thoughts?

Did you touch the "reset" selection? (If yes, you are screwed).

Install this (it does not matter if it has already been installed):

It is a special package that you put in the visible, USB storage, top level, then you can use Amazon's UYK menu entry (or just reboot into it) to do the install, it should repair whatever is wrong with ;log mrpi

Does KUAL work on the Kindle Oasis 2?
