Oddly enough the Dell Streak is also a phone. (Reuters) - Dell Inc said its Streak tablet computer can double as a mobile phone and will have a front-facing camera for videoconferencing -- features it hopes will help the new gadget compete against Apple Inc's iPad.

Sorry if this has been discussed before (I'm still relatively new to these forums), but has Google ever explained why it limited access of non-phones to its app store in the first place? I would think that expanding the userbase of its relatively nascent app store and OS would be in its interest (as well as the developers of applications). Is the concern that the lack of cell capabilities somehow makes piracy easier? I can't imagine that it's a technical limitation for most non-telephonic dependent apps.
I expect Apple to be arbitrary and unreasonable with respect to how its customers choose to use their products. But I thought that Google endeavored to be more relaxed with these sorts of restrictions and more accommodating of innovation. |

I think it has to do with the apps and compatibility. Different systems have access to different apps. Then again, maybe they are just waiting until they launch the rumored Google android tablet.

Has anyone tried this on the edge yet? Is there any reason why I shouldn't?

I can't think of any reason not to. Not sure if it'll work on the eDGe given it's advertised for the Archos, but that may just be because the author happened to have an Archos and didn't test it on anything else.

Well, if I have implicit borisb approval to experiment, then here goes nothing!

I'm assuming it won't brick or mess up the eDGe, as developers like robot and jcase seem to imply it's a common and harmless type of patch
Personally, I'm of the age where I go with what's "official" and "safe", and if Google hasn't made the Market accessible, then I'm prepared to do without until they make it available. I'm actually doing just fine in finding free apps through third party markets. I don't know exactly how the patch works, and whether it touches core system files that perhaps enTourage have themselves customized. Last edited by borisb; 09-03-2010 at 05:42 PM. |

No bricking or crashing... but I did get to the Install Google Apps vs. Remove Google Apps step, and it said "Installation Failed."
