Kindle Oasis Photos Suggest USB-C Port
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Kindle Oasis still uses a micro-USB, right?
Today, I was looking at Kindle Oasis prices on Amazon and was surprised to find that one of the main photographs of the device seemed to suggest a USB-C port. I had to check the technical details to confirm that it was still using a micro-USB. It may not seem like a big deal, but this is not an accident; it is a deliberate attempt to mislead potential buyers, since someone had to edit the image to make the port look like this. |

Interesting. It appears that the US version of that photo is faked. The USB port is on the other side of the device.
This review has photos of the top and bottom of the device taken from angles that clearly show the difference between the USB port and the power button: Kindle Oasis with LTE (This is the second generation device but I believe that the port position is the same in the third generation device.) (Added: Photo from review attached. It is face down, but shows the same end as the stock photos.) Last edited by jhowell; 07-21-2024 at 04:04 PM. |

Yeah, now I see what you mean. The European version of the photo, as you pointed out, is the accurate one. Now, one can only wonder about the logic behind the decision to doctor the photo on the American site.

My guess is that was done to make it clear that the device has a micro USB port. A lie in the interest of telling the truth.

I just hope they have a new one soon. I don’t want to jump ship but I will since I really don’t like the Paperwhite.

This photo has been circulating since about 2020 (according to a TinEye search), so I think it's just a mistake and doesn't suggest they would release an updated model.

I doubt they'll release a new one at 7" since they quietly dropped it from the US store and finally got it scrubbed from the marketing images for the Kindles after months and the Paperwhite is so close at 6.8". If there's going to be one, I'd assume 8" to sit between the PW and the Scribe.

It's possible they may revive it with an updated version, since that would bring back the only ebook reader with buttons that Amazon makes.
I'm one of those strange buffoons who likes buttons. |
