Yes it does! I downloaded the Nook for Windows app from the link posted after the app was discontinued in the Microsoft store. I have it running on Windows 11. However, in just the last couple of weeks, I think BN has started using different DRM. Some of my Nook books will open in Calibre and some will not. So, I have once again quit buying from BN. But the Nook for Windows app works just fine.
Edit: Just to be clear. The original Nook for PC program is different than the Nook for Windows app. The old Nook for PC program does NOT work. The Nook for Windows app does. Last edited by cgsmom; 07-25-2024 at 10:19 AM. |

So far I haven't had any problem opening books I bought from Barnes and Noble in Calibre... You would think that if they changed the DRM, then any newly downloaded books would have the new DRM. Maybe I have just been lucky...

As for moving the books, I keep my calibre library on an external hard drive. I like the Western Digital My Passport drives. Makes it easy to move from PC to PC. |

If you haven't already done it, just go to Calibre, Preferences, Plugins, File Type plugins, select DeDRM and Customize. Select the option for B&N books and it should automatically set it up for you. Then just add your ePubs into Calibre again. (If you've already done all this, I apologize for going into this much detail about it.) |

I was also able to download and install Calibre and NoDRM (DeDRM) and create the hash for B&N eBooks. Calibre successfully liberated four books I tested, but none of these are new, so I can't guarantee it'll work on newer books. At any rate, the Nook App does work on Windows 11. At least on my laptop it does. |

Success After All
Well, just for fun and grins, I went back to the links and attempted to download the necessary files one more time. This time, I succeeded in downloading all three files, installed them, and was able to sign in. And all my Barnes & Noble books showed up. I've redownloaded them onto the new computer. Since I already had them in Calibre, I'm not particularly concerned with future proofing them again, although I just might to be on the safe side. I guess the version I previously had downloaded from a while ago was the wrong version. Doesn't mean I'm going to resume purchasing from Barnes & Noble, however. It just means my books are no longer held hostage for the moment. Turns out that I have to tell my browser to download the files anyway as they are "not" secure. And the way around that is to right click on each file and chose save link in the dialogue box which comes up. Then you have to tell your browser to download the file anyway because otherwise, it's blocked. Hope this helps someone else.

This is a very bad idea and should be avoided. I'm sorry your books are being held hostage and I get wanted to have them, but you're risking a lot more than books when you do stuff like this. Please be vigilant. |

I'm sorry but why are you folks downloading software that could possibly 1. steal your credentials 2. install adware and 3, and probably worst of all, install malware or ransomware?
It's tough when you want to actually access what you've bought and the company you bought from has yanked support however most of the stuff you're linking in this thread is dubious at best. Please be careful y'all. |

As far as I can tell, these downloads are just the Nook App for Windows and older versions of a C library needed for its unmet dependencies. Several people here have downloaded and installed these files and — so far — no reports of malware of any kind. |

I will download a VC++ redistributable package from there when I am installing a program that does not include the redist installer due to worries about package sizes. I can see worrying about downloads from a random site but making a global statement such as you did is going above and beyond into the realm of pure paranoia.
