Calibre stores automatically deleted files in the library
I have some news sources that get fetched automatically. I have checked the option in preferences>behaviour to delete this news after they are sent to the reader. however, they show up in the calibre library as "name of the news" -deleted - "id of the book". I know I am not supposed to mess with my library, but still - this just wastes space. Is there a way to remove these files? Or do they get removed after some time?

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying the file is not being deleted? Make sure you are running the current calibre release.

My calibre library is stored in /some/where/E-Books. After downloading a news source and pushing it to my device, it would get deleted, resulting in a folder in /some/where/ called "E-Books deleted HFs0Oz". That is not inside calibre library itself. I upgraded from Ubuntu's version (1.0) to current version and it seems to have stopped. If it reoccurs, I will let you know.

I noticed this during the last week using calibre portable version 1.9. See attached. Inside this directory is the one book shown in the pop-up dialog.
I don't know what the circumstances around it's creation were, but if this is a part of sending books to the recycle bin then maybe Dropbox prevented the deletion of this folder after it was created due to a temporary conflict. Thanks for pointing this out. I updated my post.
Last week when it happened to me it was version 1.9. I vaguely recall seeing an error message, most likely I probably ignored the error after my library checked out ok. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 11-13-2013 at 12:50 AM. |

I'm not expecting any feedback from Kovid on this I was just clarifying the OPs position statement for Kovid. If it happens again I'll save the error, but until then I am treating it as a one-off error that I see from time to time because I run Dropbox. Last edited by DoctorOhh; 11-13-2013 at 05:33 AM. |

The only ways I know of in the current calibre release for the "deleted" temporary folder to be left behind after you quit calibre is if you quit while that folder was being moved to the recycle bin, and if you do so, calibre pops up a message warning you about it.
Or of course, if something like dropbox blocks calibre from moving the files to the recycle bin. However that should only happen on windows, not linux. Last edited by kovidgoyal; 11-14-2013 at 02:04 AM. |

RU sure the 'deleted' folder was created after you installed 1.10 - e.g. is its create timestamp after the modify timestamp on the calibre install folder.
