Apple App Store will now support subscription model for e-books
http://techztalk.blogspot.com/2009/0...-event-on.html
I don't know what this means... but it sounds interesting. Will do more research. BOb |

"App Store will now support subscription model for e-books, games. For example you purchase a game with 10 levels, then after completing the first 10 levels you can update the game by buying next 10 levels directly from the game." It sounds to me like this now allows an ebook reading application that would let you buy (& download) books from inside the ebook reading application.

That crap has been happening on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well with downloadable content available as soon as a game launches--with many times it being content already on the game disc that you have to buy a code to unlock. Ridiculous. |

I don't see how that's any different from what PC game companies do. You buy the game, then you buy expansion packs for it.
But I'm really concerned that it may not be the best model for e-books. For one thing, e-book prices are pretty tight already. What happens if Apple also gets to take a 30% cut? For another, what about those apps, like eReader or Stanza, that allow you to purchase content from "within the app" already? How will they get by in a world where Apple has such strict rules about "in-app stores"? http://www.teleread.org/2009/03/17/w...t-e-book-apps/ |

Now we're seeing things on console games left out that should have been in to start with--pay extra to unlock a multiplayer mode, or costumes for characters in fighting games etc. Stuff that previously was already in the game from the start or was unlocked by beating certain things rather than having to pay for something. So that's the difference with this kind of nickel and diming vs. the expansions on PCs. I was never into PC gaming anyway, always been a console gamer. |

It would seem that an iphone user with the kindle app will be able to buy books from Amazon through the app and read them on the iphone as previously stated. The timing can't be a coincidence; I think this puts to bed any thought that Apple would be growing the iphone/touch model into a 10" reader/tablet.

If directly from the Publisher through Apple, then it should cause ebook prices to drop. Amazon currently takes 65% of the ebook price, and Fictionwise takes 50%. |

Hmm, couldn't it be a system that we have here now?
You buy a book, which will be sent to your mobile phone. http://www.movels.eu/ |
