List of places to download ebooks...?
I'm trying to compile a list of ebook sellers for my own personal use (it's time to stock up on some good books!). I'm still pretty new to ebook shopping, so please let me know where you buy your books. I'm not just looking for mainstream novels, so if you know some obscure sellers, please let me know. Any genre is welcome! I have pretty diverse tastes (and I find those raunchy romances I love are easier to hide on an ebook reader than on a bookshelf ).
P.S. I favor ePubs... |

www.baen.com - They have a Free Library and a storefront that sells individual books at sub-paperback prices (DRM-free) as well as selling monthly bundles (called webscriptions) of 6-7 books for US$15. DRM-free, again, in your choice of formats.
http://baencd.thefifthimperium.com/ - collects BAEN's promo CDs with dozens of legally free ebooks each. Mobileread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ebo...&sort=dateline Munsey's.com - tens of thousands of pre-1923 books. Or you could search for "Exquisite Enigma" at ebay and get 25,000+ ePubs on two DVDs for US$7.98 or so. |

Smashwords.com has self-published ebooks, including plenty of romance & erotica titles at good prices (I'm currently enjoying Patricia Ryan & Alexis Harrington books at $3 each), and all DRM-free. Quality is hit-or-miss, but they offer partial downloads, often 50% of the book, so you can sample & decide if you like it.
Fictionwise.com has more mainstream publications, including both DRM & non-DRM ebooks; their non-DRM'd are available in several formats. Feedbooks has free ebooks, including public domain, author releases, and creative commons releases. Many of the publishers who list books at Fictionwise & Smashwords have their own websites, sometimes with more books that aren't available elsewhere. |

Don't forget all the Public Domain books out there either.
Project Gutenberg is great, but I prefer to get them from manybooks.net. (Has most of PG's list, more formats, easier to search) The Baen stuff is awesome, been doing the CD's from there, gave me about a full years reading from authors that are right up my alley. Drake, Weber, Ringo, etc. |

There's A Writer's Work. (I don't have any plans to sell my books there, but it looks like a cool venture.)

There aren't many books there yet, but you might check out
http://http://closed-circle.net/ Lynne Abbey, C.J. Cherryh, and Jane Fancher are slowly putting up some of their backlist on the site. A helpful site to check out is http://inkmesh.com/ They have price comparisons of different sites for the books. And they have links to search for free books. |
