I've noticed that quite a few of the books I bought some years ago from Baen are no longer available from them. That presumably is a rights issue. Eg, this one. Yet another illustration of the fact that you can't assume that if you buy a book, the bookstore will keep it available to you forever.

Correct, Harry. And why, like you, I make sure I have a clean, backed up copy, in a format that converts well to other formats. Alf is my friend.

The nice thing about buying from Baen, though, is that you don't need to be friends with Alf, although he is of course a jolly nice chap whom you may well wish to be friends with for other reasons.

Yup. One of the big reasons I started buying more from Baen in the first place. That and the bundles which have brought completely new authors into my list. I had somehow never read any of Eric Flint's 1632 books, for example, so finding 1632 in the Baen Free Library started me down a whole new oeuvre.
