Question Bug in Calibre 0.9.9 ? (Connecting to iPad)

I just downloaded 0.9.9 and since I have a Win 7 64-bit system, I also downloaded the new 64-bit version. Updated to 0.9.9 on the 32-bit version, and then installed the 64-bit version in parallell in order to compare the two. NEITHER version recognized my standard device, an iPad 1, any longer. Tried running the 'debug device detection' tool, and got the following output :

calibre 0.9.9 [64bit] isfrozen: True is64bit: True
Windows-7-6.1.7601-SP1 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE')

Perhaps someone can help me interpret this...

Anyway, uninstalled both versions of Calibre 0.9.9, and reinstalled Calibre 0.9.7, the latest version I used, and presto ! The iPad was once again recognized.

Is it just me, or could there be problem with the latest release ?

Install this plugin and you should be able to connect to your iPad again.

Note that the direct connection mode has changed. Copies are no longer stored in iTunes, only transferred to iBooks on your connected device. If it's important to you to have copies in iTunes, use the 'Connect to iTunes' method described in Calibre + iDevices: Start here.

Follow-on question

Thanks, G,

Minded to try this. Seems simpler (and faster) to have Calibre upload books straight to the iBooks app on my iPad. And i Don't really need copies of my books in iTunes since Calibre can function as a backup if needed. But there's the rub :

I have a very large library on my iPad, over 1 200 titles. I like using cover view and have sorted the titles according to author in that view. I think iTunes backs up the layout in cover view (i e which books go where). but does Calibre do the same ? Or will I have to re-sort the whole shebang if I ever have to restore the contents in iBooks ? (Done that once due to error when installing an iTunes upgrade. Never again !)

Thanks once again for your helpful responses.

Calibre doesn't know anything about how iBooks manages book order in cover view, that's all handled by iTunes. I don't know what happens after a restore. In the past, I know the sort order was lost, but there have been several updates to iBooks in the meantime, I'd like to think that sort order is backed up. If you learn more, please report it here for the benefit of others.
