@drMerry - Idolse has mentioned this in the past, and as he is the current "owner" of the source code in terms of holding the dev baton currently I shall leave it to him to comment further.

@Caleb666 - the "Modify ePub" plugin removes these for you. It is only in beta but that is because of a "list of more features we want to add to make it 1.0" rather than because the ones that are there do not work (I've been using it myself for months without any issues). At the moment the latest version is at the bottom of Page 11 on this thread.

@drmerry, cover handling is the major gating item for the modify ePub plugin 1.0 release, when it gets added we can add the SVG quality check requested. I haven't had as much time to contribute to Calibre lately, but I'm hoping to get back into it soon.

Just another real quality check request.

I would like to have an option to find books with having tags AND subtags of this tag.
It would be nice to have them presented in subgroups like the find duplicate plugin.

In my opinion this option would show groups like this:

This plugin is very useful. Thank you so much.
I did however stumble upon something weird. Perhaps someone can help me out.

In my book collection I have books by Tim Green and Alistair MacLean. When I check author sorting the plugin tells me that all books of Tim Green are sorted wrong unless I change author sort to all capitals. so instead of 'Green, Tim' it want's me to use 'GREEN, TIM'.

And for MacLean I have to use 'Maclean, Alistair' instead of MacLean, Alistair. The plugin want's me to change the 'L'.
But I have more Scottish authors in my collection and they are ok, like McNab or MacLeod. Nothing weird going on there.

I have no idea what is going on here. I even opened the epub files with Sigil to look at the metadata.

I should not forget to add that calibre automatically changes 'Green, Tim' to 'GREEN, TIM' and 'MacLean, Alistair' to 'Maclean, Alistair' if I press the blue arrow in the metadata screen. It doesn't do things like this for any other author in my collection.

On my device these authors get very often sorted wrong also. They very often sort on first name.

Can anybody help me out?

You have hit one of the "funky" things in Calibre, where it allows you to specify an author sort at the "author level" as well as override it at the "book level". If you choose Manage Authors from the Tag Browser pane, it will show you what the default sort is for all your authors (this would have come from when you first added a book). Go to those authors that you have a problem with and you will see in there that your "default" is incorrectly set to the uppercase versions etc.

As soon as you fix that, it means in future your author sort will be set correctly for any books added for that author to that value.

There is a long reason why that you can find elsewhere in these forums and possibly on the help page for author sort as well - but Quality Check is doing the "right thing" by telling you of that inconsistency in your database.

I have never used 'Manage Authors' before. There are many options like that in Calibre I have not yet touched upon.

I never once thought your plugin was doing something wrong, by the way. I immediately had the feeling there was something going on behind the screens of calibre I did not yet understand. Now I do. Thank you for your help.

A feature requested a long while ago by drMerry and more recently in this thread.

If you have series with index values of 0.5, 2, 4 then it will tell you that you are missing values 1 and 3. Note that it will not attempt to find missing decimal values (e.g. 2009.10, 2009.12 is missing 2009.11). Also note that as mentioned above it assumes a series will start at 1 - numbers below that will not be checked.

@theducks - hmmm, that is a bit ick. I don't do anything quite that radical with my series (or at least not in the library where my fiction is stored).

I guess there are two options. One is that you apply a search restriction to exclude your magazines before you run the check. The other would be that I guess I could make a special exemption for series based on the size of the index. Starts becoming a bit secret sauce though.

It was funny that you used the exact Index as a date example ([2009.10] and I got that.

@theducks - Re your "oddity" test case - that should get found when you run the duplicate series check though right? The way the check works currently there is an "assumption" in this check that you have eliminated your duplicates first.

As for your [123] case - well that is a perfect example of the limitations of this sort of check, absolutely nothing I can do about it I can think of. Serves you right for getting "funky" with your omnibus
