Epub to AZW3 failed,

Hi, I've tried to post this once, but it seems I was logged out during writing, so I don't think it posted. Apologies if it did as this will largely be a duplicate.

I'm trying to convert an epub file to AZW3 and it failed. it first hung at 47% and I let it run through the night and it crashed after 11 hours. In the detailed log there was an error Message: Python function terminated unexpectedly (error code 1), it continued running and failed terminally With a memory error.

My computer is a 64bit Windows 10 machine With 16gb of RAM.

I then ran book check and there were over 200 errors related to the CSS Construct not being recognized.

The book is a 42GB Seientific book With many formulas.

I'm in Contact With the Publisher. Any idea what might be wrong?

The bottom part of the detailed Conversion output file is below:

Merging user specified metadata...
Detecting structure...
Flattening CSS and remapping font sizes...

Python function terminated unexpectedly

Is the book size a typo or is it actually 42GB?

How many folk have a device that allows 42G of anything??
Isn't there issues when a single file size tries to cross the 4G mark?

Thanks,

Sorry the book is 42mb. I thought I had installed the 64bit Version, but must not have. I've deleted it and re-installed the 64 bit Version and the Conversion has been running for 27 hours, the majority of it while at 47%. We will see how it goes.

It's not a fixed-layout ePub, is it? Textbooks often are. Such books can't be converted.

Most modern file systems will allow files over 4GB. Even exFAT will allow files over 4GB.

I routinely handle files from 20 to 40GB on my laptop (2TB of NvMe M.2 storage) with most of the files coming from packaging CC6 installs -- Adobe does love consuming disk space. Then I have the work SAN where a good chunk of the files are measured in TB not GB even using it's on the fly compression (or how to slow all flash storage to near magnetic media speeds).

I suspect RAM would be the first issue if I tried opening a GB sized ebook.

22PB is a bit larger than our current needs. Not to mention our next upgrade is going to force us away from our current Fibre Channel setup given that HPE/Nimble have relegated Fibre Channel to legacy status. Our testing seems to show that, in our setup, dual 16GB Fibre Channel is faster than dual 10GB iSCSI but what do end users know—Fibre Channel is just so last century.

yes it is a fixed epub

Hi, The conversion ran for 32 hours and then crashed for several reasons, but it sounds like the basic problem is the input file is a Fixed format epub and that can't be converted.

In case that isn't the case I've put some samples of the error messages.

Assuming that fixed format files can't be converted, thanks to everyone for the help!
