Meaning a rental is the same as a purchase.
So renting a car or a dwelling or a backhoe is the same as purchasing it? Or do you have to also have to store it in your garage?

Dunno about the rest as I said.

As I said in an earlier post, the DRM removal tools will (by design) not remove the DRM used on Amazon's rental books.

I think it's a great idea. Especially for a mainstream author I've not tried yet and whose books are in the $9.99 and up range. Makes me far more likely to try them out, which in turn might expand my reading horizons, not that it isn't broad enough already...

I've been a Netflix customer for a decade. For a year now I've subscribed to music rental services (currently Rdio) where I pay $9.99 and I can download all the music I want to my smartphone, or stream it. It's terrific. No, I don't "own" the music. But since I have no intention of canceling such a wondrous service, it's a moot point.

If such a service popped up for ebooks, for a decent monthly price, with the majority of publishers on board, and access to all the bestsellers/ new releases if not the day of release than within a month or two - I'd be first in line.

The problem is that, whereas many people listen to a lot of music - many songs every day - very few people read as much as a single book in a month, and if the change was, say, $10 a month, it would be as cheap for most people to simply buy a book. I don't think the market exists to make such a service economically viable, unfortunately.

Good point & you're probably right, sadly. I read on average about 4-5 books a month & obviously most of us on this forum are avid readers. But we're a distinct minority. One can hope though...

So you are in favor of a pay per read scheme? Having the means to access every book every written but every time you open the book payment must be made to the creator?

Cars wear out but ideas are forever.

Now where did I say that? Where did anyone say that? I've never even heard of such a scheme.
