Hey everyone, I'm a little late getting back - away from my computer all day today. Thanks for the input on the regular Kindle vs Paperwhite. I'm not in desperate need of something new, and decided to give it a pass.
Thanks to all who educated me! |

I like that I'm pretty much done with Black Friday shopping, and it isn't even Black Friday yet!

More streaming deals:
Hulu will again offer 12 mos at 99 cents/mo; deal starts at midnight on Thanksgiving Day and is good through 11:59 PM PT on Cyber Monday, November 29 for both new and eligible returning subscribers. No link as it's not live yet. Amazon Prime Video again has a bunch of add-on channels (Showtime, Starz, Epix, Lifetime, Paramount, etc.) for 99 cents/mo for the first two months. If you're a subscriber to YouTube TV, it has some of the same add-ons, with the same pricing. |

Even more streaming deals: Wondrium (formerly The Great Courses Plus) $10/month billed quarterly or annually for 1st year compared with $20/month regular price. I like the service, hate the new name. Who comes up with these things??? Anyway, this is the unlimited streaming service; TheGreatCourses.com is the one where you buy the classes to stream or on DVD. Link Deezer Premium 25% off monthly $9.99 plan if billed annually $89.91 (equivalent $7.49/month). I am just finishing up a free 6 month trial on Deezer and I like it as an alternative to Spotify, has voice control through Alexa and Google Assistant. Deezer HiFi @ $14.99/month not discounted. Link Tidal (more music streaming) $1 for first 3 months of Premium, HiFi or HiFi Family through Best Buy. Renews at regular rates $9.99, $14.99 or $22.49 so cancel before 3 months are up. Annual plans also available through Best Buy $79.99 for HiFi Premium, $119.99 for HiFi or HiFi Family. Alexa voice control but can only cast to Google Assistant enabled speakers. I like Tidal's mixes - 8 different ones based on artists and music genres or decades that you "like"; the algorithms seem to read my mind and my mood... Link Craftsy $1 for 1st month with coupon code $1firstmonth renews @ $7.99/month thereafter. Unlimited streaming of 1500+ classes in 16 categories: Quilt Knit Sew Crochet Embroider Cake Decorating Bake Cook Draw Paint Photography Writing Paper Crafts Jewelry Making Gardening Woodworking. Note that Wondrium now includes a bunch of Craftsy classes if that subscription suits your needs better. Link MHz Choice - Foreign movies and TV shows with English subtitles. Coupon code BLACK21 gets you 50% off for 6 months ($3.99 instead of $7.99/month). Start with a 7-day free trial. Annual plan is $89.99. "2500+ hours of binge worthy episodes" include all 37 episodes of Montalbano, 2 seasons of The Young Montalbano, 20 episodes of Brunetti Mysteries, 9 seasons of Maigret, 2 seasons of Mary Higgins Clarke Mysteries, 2 seasons of Wallander with Krister Henriksson in the leading role, 4 episodes with Rolf Lassgård as Wallander, and many many more delightful shows I never knew existed. Fantastic scenery, pick up a few words of French, Italian, German, Swedish and prepare for your next European trip! Link Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! |

The .99 for Hulu basic with ads was active last night, just signed up.
Paperwhite vs Basic Kindle: Wife got the basic, I have the Paperwhite. The resolution is noticeable on small text. But if you like your fonts size 8 or larger like I do, the resolution is not much of an issue. If they drop the basic down to $39 I'm picking one up as a backup device and something I wouldn't mind carrying about with me. Both the Paperwhite and Basic Kindle are nice devices. (Note I have the previous, not the brand new Paperwhite released). Edit: just realized the basic Kindle is already $40 off regular price. Will be surprised if they drop it further, especially as they are sold out of black right now. I went ahead and bought a white one with a moko case since white is in stock and I like that white moko case with the tree on it. Last edited by conan50; 11-24-2021 at 05:27 PM. |
