Cover
In general, do you use a cover on your eink ereader?
Please only vote if you have an eink reader. For example: If you use it when you leave the house (to protect the device), vote yes. If you usually use it while reading, vote yes. Thank you. |

Yes to both. The Folio cover stays on the reader and is closed while in transit (not reading)

Yes, I use a sleeve cover on my eInk reader. I've seen too many screens get cracked inside a book bag or back pack. I generally don't use one on my eInk reader while reading, though I do use one on my iPads while reading.

Yes and yes. My Kobo Touch lives in a Kindle cover (hey, it fitted and were very cheap when PC World were selling them off), and the Icarus has a cover.
So did my Elonex - although the screen cracked when I fell asleep on the sofa and rolled over and put weight on one elbow - which was right on top of the Elonex. (In fact, all my ereaders, smartphones & tablets have covers - I tend to carry the contents of my kitchen around with me...) |

Yes, I always use a cover with my eink readers. Both when I go out and at home.

I use a sleeve. It comes out of the sleeve to read. I had a folding cover on my first generation nook and the cover made it too heavy.

I'm sure someone will come along to tell you that readers are fragile and you should never take them out of the case. I figure it's up to each ereader owner to weigh comfort against the cost and inconvenience of replacing a broken device.
On my old Sony PRS-T1 I used a cover when I left the house but took the cover off if I was reading at home on my couch or bed, next to a carpeted floor, where a drop was unlikely to damage it. I found the reader more comfortable to hold without the cover. I did use a cover when I took the reader away from home. The only damage to my T1 came when I had it open for reading on my desk during a break at work and something fell on the screen from the hutch above the desk, creating a 1/8" divot in the screen. The reader is still usable though, except for not being able to see a few letters in that one spot. The design of my current Sony PRS-T3 is such that if I remove the snap-on cover, I am left with an unfinished back which would be uncomfortable to hold, so the cover stays on at all times. |

I'm mainly wondering why there is no poll at the top of the thread?
And yeah, I do use covers for my readers. |

I keep a sleep cover on all my ereaders 100% of the time. I'm pretty anal about protecting all my electronics to keep them as pristine as possible, so for me a cover is a must.
If I ever got a scratch on an ereader, I'd have to replace it. Same goes for my phone, monitors, tablets, TVs, etc. |

The cover on my eReader only comes off when I clean it. The only time the cover failed to protect my eReader was when a car deliberately ran over it.

All my ereaders have a sleep cover. The only time the cover is removed is when I am cleaning the ereader.

On my Kindle:
Never a true "cover". It is stored and carried to and from locations in a padded zippered case, but is naked when being used. On my Tablet (currently my more frequent reading device): Storage around the house and when reading it is in a classic flip-open case. For transport, the tablet with the cover is then put in a padded zippered case. The Kindle is light and I don't need a cover to aide holding it. The tablet is a bit too heavy to hold on its own. I usually use the case as an easel stand with the tablet on a table. Occasionally I do hand hold the tablet and then the case improves my grip. |
