This classic, blood-drenched dystopian vision - predating 1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451or any of the better-known nightmare futures in literature - describes the emergence of a ruthless, despotic capitalist oligarchy in response to the popular labour movement of early 20th-century America. These events are seen from the contrasting viewpoints of a contemporary socialist revolutionary and a far-future historian.

Although it thankfully never came to pass, Jack London's political tour-de-force is still very enjoyable from an alternate-history perspective.
