I'm rather pleased with my new monitor. It seems a good choice. It's sold out (ships in one week) in a 50 mile radius.

I just ordered a new PC from Dell. Rakuten is offering 15% cash back for Black Friday (don't know for how long), which certainly helped influence my purchase today. I spent a bit more than I expected to, but my trusty old PC does need to be replaced before it bites the dust. So ... Black Friday shopping is probably done!

Amazon always sells the N360 5-user version for $20 on BF. Today I bought the one that is good for 15 months (vs. 12) with "auto renew", which I always cancel. At checkout it gave me an additional $7 discount, no idea why. Anyway if you use N360 you might want to try it - you can just leave it in your account to download when your current license expires. Note that since it's autorenew, you will have to provide a payment method when installing, so don't forget to cancel.

@tubemonkey I have a Moto E6 and I think it's a piece of junk. It's much inferior to my last E5 (which broke). Of course with model names now I don't know if my E6 has anything to do with your E6.

Optical disk drives and 5-1/4" bays seem to be unpopular. It's hard to get a small PC chassis with one bay. Sure, you can get some washing machine sized beast with five bays. I built a custom enclosure out of aluminum. This was supposed to be just a prototype, but I kept it.

I suggest a 34" ultrawide with a resolution of 3440x1440. 1080 on a desktop monitor is meh!

Another option that I like is getting a 4k LCD TV to use as a monitor.

OMG!

Why? Why would you let that *BLEEP!* anywhere near your computer. The AV that comes with Windows 10/11 works very well and is free, Norton is not good at all. Enjoy your system slowing down and lots of false positives among other issues.

Nope. Everybody tries to talk you up. I didn't have that much of a problem with 1920 x 1080, I just wanted something shinier. 1440 would be taller and I wouldn't be able to commune with the cows as easily.

Ok, the 2.37 aspect ratio of my new monitor is cool for movies. I watch 2-3 a year.

I like having windows neatly tiled. I wrote a new Windows program to allow quick selection of tiling. The little popup shows how I can get 40% width Firefox, 40% Notepad, 20% Shell.

Personally, I like more screen space. If I was using a desktop computer often enough, I'd use it with a 4k TV. That would give me lots of space. I do watch a lot of movies. But for that, I mostly use the LG OLED C1 65" TV.

My first personal display device was a DEC VT05.
It had 20 rows of 72 characters and as the manual says:

Add me to the list of folks who think Black Friday starting in October is too much.

I was happy that Target easily honored a sale price for a toy I purchased when they lowered the price the next week. Just did a chat on the website and they refunded the difference.

I bought a mechanical keyboard that was 50% off. Technically two of them, but one will be returned. I got cherry brown & cherry red models to try both and keep the one I like better.

In many ways, we were severely disappointed by the Black Friday sales in the Bellingham, WA area. For many of the items we looked at, the price in Canada was actually lower even before considering the US/Canada exchange rate. Would you prefer to buy the same item for $147.99 Cdn or $154.98 US?
