Grahame, Kenneth: The Wind in the Willows - Kaufempfehlung

Die verschiedenen Ausgaben sind offenbar alle nicht mehr in der Mobileread-Bibliothek verfügbar, da der ursprüngliche (?) Illustrator Paul Bransom noch zu lange gelebt hat.

Eigentlich eine verrückte Situation, da verschiedene Ausgaben bei Amazon.de für sehr kleines Geld zu haben sind. Ob die alle dann Tantiemen an die Erben bzw. Rechteinhaber abführen, wage ich zu bezweifeln.

Nun gut, welche würdet ihr empfehlen? Da sollen auch gekürzte Texte im Umlauf sein, hätte natürlich gerne eine vollständige Version, hat da vielleicht jemand einen Tipp?

Die Übersetzung von Harry Rowohlt ist leider um 2 komplette Kapitel gekürzt. Ich habe den Verdacht, das er die Szenen des Kröterich vor Gericht und im Gefängnis für nicht mehr zeitgemäß hielt. Sehr schade, denn es ist eine schöne Übersetzung und die Illustration ist toll.

Die Ausgabe lohnt sich aber nur als gedrucktes Buch. Wegen der Farbe, und weil es das große Buchformat benötigt.

Und zu deiner Frage: Geh einfach mal nach http://www.gutenberg.org

Die ePUB dort sind zwar nicht so gut wie hier auf MobileRead, dafür findest du dort 2 Ausgaben. Eine mit und eine ohne Illustrationen.

Danke, das reicht mir doch schon.

So weit ich gesehen habe, sind es im Original nicht besonders viele Illustrationen, die ich jetzt nicht so beeindruckend fand. Da gibt es schönere Exemplare, z.B. das von Eric Kincaid gestaltete Buch. hier

Hi, ich habe sogar eine deutsche Fassung im Netz gefunden. Allerdings nicht als Ebook, und auch nicht frei. Scheint eine frische Übersetzung für diese Seite zu sein.

Ja, interessant. Das spricht für mich dafür, dass es da offenbar niemanden gibt, der Anspruch auf die Bildrechte erhebt.

Die Übersetzungen bekommen dann wieder eigene Rechte, obwohl der Autor und dessen Erben die Rechte am Original schon lange "verloren" haben. Für mich ist das schon sehr verrückt.

Stimmt, bei Bildrechten für Illustrationen von alten Büchern scheinen die schlafenden Hunde noch nicht aufgewacht zu sein. So ganz verwunderlich ist es nicht. Die Autoren sind meistens bekannt, aber die Namen der Illustratoren sind sehr selten Gesprächsstoff.

Und mn meint immer, der Illustrator müsse ungefähr zur gleichen Zeit gelebt haben wie der Autor. Leider ein Trugschluss. (Gilt ebenso für Übersetzer.)

Dann kommt natürlich noch hinzu, dass die Leute mit den Bildern immer noch sehr lax umgehen. Blauäugig meinen sie sich überall bedienen zu dürfen. Bis irgendwann die Abmahnung ins Haus flattert.

Wenn man sich mal selbst an einer Übersetzung versucht hat findet man das nicht mehr so verrückt. Eine ordentliche Übersetzung ist viel Arbeit. Man muss sich zwar nicht mehr die Handlung ausdenken. Aber man darf nicht den originalen Erzählstil verlieren.

(Nein, ich habe noch keinen längeren Text übersetzt. Aber auch nur ein paar kurze Absätze entpuppten sich als eine Heidenarbeit. Wie das halt so mit nur lang zurückliegenden Schulkenntnissen einer Sprache ist.)

Ich stimme dir da absolut zu und habe große Hochachtung vor Übersetzern und deren meist gering geschätzte und vor allem bezahlte Leistung.

Aber muss man daraus unbedingt ableiten, dem Übersetzer wiederum die gleiche Zeitspanne als Recht einzuräumen. Ich weiß nicht.

Ich versuche jedenfalls mehr im englischen Original zu lesen, dann habe ich diese Probleme nicht.

Stimmt, die 70 Jahre sind generell etwas lang. Wenn sie bereits zu Lebzeiten laufen würden, aber so haben ja nur die Erben etwas davon. Wofür eigentlich?

Und die Verleger. Die sind sicherlich der Grund für die Regelung. Wenn ich es richtig weiß steckt da ganz viel Disney dahinter. Es soll verhindert werden das die Rechte auf Mickey Maus auslaufen.

Das dem Übersetzer die gleichen Rechte eingeräumt werden finde ich in Ordnung.

Mehr englische Originale lesen ist eine gute Idee. Allerdings hat sie auch ihre Tücke. Wenn man die Sprache nicht wirklich gut beherrscht entgeht einem auch viel. Je nachdem kann man dann selbst mit einer mittelmäßigen Übersetzuung besser bedient sein. Für mich ist das englische Original lesen jedenfalls deutlich anstrengender. Und an Französisch traue ich mich er gar nicht ran.
