I now leave them turned on in my hand luggage and no one ever knows. I continue to fly without crashing. Go figure.

Hope you're not on my plane next week. How hard is it to turn it off for a couple of minutes for take off and landing? No they aren't sure that there's any effect but I don't want to be on the one that crashes if it does happen. Give the stewards a break and do what they ask.. you'll get better service that way.

It's sort of a gray area, but I don't hesitate to continue reading my e-book as soon as we land while everyone else scrambles for their phones.
