Nesbit, Edith: The Literary Sense (Short Story Collection). v1. 06 October 2015

The Literary Sense
by Edith Nesbit (1858–1924)
First published 1903.

The text of this book is in the public domain in countries where copyright is “Life+70” or less, and in the USA.

------------
Edith Nesbit Bland, English author and poet, published approximately 40 books for children under the name of E. Nesbit. Her innovative body of work influenced many subsequent fantasy writers. Nesbit’s reputation rests almost exclusively on her work for children, but she also wrote for adults. In addition to about a dozen novels for adults, she published many short stories.
* * *
This collection presents eighteen clever and ironic stories based on the premise that some people possess a “literary sense,” which impels them to act, think, and even feel as though they were characters in a book or play they have seen. If the people around them fail to react in a likewise literary manner, the outcome may be unexpected.

-------------
Text was obtained from archive.org scan of the 1903 first edition. Punctuation, diacritics, and italics have been formatted; some spelling and punctuation modernized/standardized. Chapter heads are cross-linked to in-line Table of Contents. Embedded fonts for titling and drop-caps.

-------------
Hmmm. Interesting....
