The number depends on firmware major version. Searching for KT at MobileRead will find mostly Kobo Touch. The 6-inch eink Kindles are called Kn, where n is the major firmware version. The Kindle Fire is version 6, so the new kindle will probably be K7 (or whatever its major firmware version is). The DX and DXG both run 2.x firmware (same as the Kindle 2), and things could get even more complicated if the new kindle model uses the same firmware as a K4 or K5.

I am guessing the new one will be K7, because the Kindle Fire already uses 6.x firmware.
