movie reviews?

I searched and did not find a thread that was solely dedicated to reviews... I think (I hope!)

anyway, I went to "Blind Side" last night. I didn't really expect to like it very much, my main hope was that as a Sandra Bullock fan I wouldn't be let too terribly down. it was good! usually it seems that cutsey feel good biographical films, especially about sports figures are real yawners unless you are an incredible fan of the sport, or that particular person. not so in this case! it was well acted, Bullock and McGraw are believably hilarious in their roles, and the kid playing the youngest son... well, he's going to be one to watch!

I give it 3 and a half out of 4 paws up!

Thatʻs great to hear! I really want to see that movie, and I *love* Sandra Bullock.

you guys are no help at all!!!

I don't particularly like being drug to movies all that often, but in the last two weekends I have had to endure "Men Who Stare at Goats" and "The Fabulous Mr. Fox".

I'm not sure if Clooney is just having a bad year, all of a sudden everyone he does business with has a crack addiction or what!!!??? up to now I'd only ever walked out on one movie in my life. these almost became numbers 2 and 3! I can't say enough about how incredibly horribly bad and wrong these two train wrecks are!

I saw it, I saw it! (Blind Side) It was really great. Heartwarming, but not too cheesy, and included pics in the closing credits of the "real" people, which I always like. What a cool story.

Well, since I never go to the movies. It's kind of hard for me to review anything current.

I did however watch "Inglorious Basterds" at home during the weekend. And all I can say is "WOW!".

I had very low expectations about the movie really. I usually stay away from movies with Brad Pitt since I seldom like the movies he stars in. And Quentin Tarantino can be hit or miss pretty much.

But this movie was so good it was pur joy from frame #1. Brad was excellent as Aldo "Apache" Raine. And Chrisoph Waltz was so wonderfully smarmy as Hans Landa.

Yes, it is a violent film, but as always, Quentin handles violence with a twinkle in the eye and lots of tongue in cheeck.

If you haven't seen it. Do!

Also watched the animated movie "9". Very wierd movie that I just had to wait until after the last second to really understand if I liked it or not. And I found out that I did. Exceptionally good animation and likeable "puppets". But at times it measure quite high on the weirdness scale!

I missed the "Basterds" when it was out, definetly want to catch it on the little screen. Tarantino can be fun, and face it... Pitt is very easy on the eyes...

Well, with a 40 inch Full HD TV, Blue-Ray player and a nice surround system. it's not so much "little screen" anymore. Now, if only more of the "good old" movies were released on BR.

But as stated, very good movie, definitly worth watching!

I concur - two and a half hours long, and gripping from start to finish.

Also, taught me a lot I didn't know about WWII.

'District 9' was another recent treat - highly recommended.

People actually liked Inglorious Basterds? I turned it off after 30 mins, it was beyond boring.

Couple of recent releases I really enjoyed:

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs (I know everyone will say UP was the best CGI cartoon this year, but I think Cloudy was far better. It's a zany movie and moves at a breakneck speed)

Harry Brown (Reminds me of a British version of Gran Torino, but far, far darker and more sinister. Borders on being a horror movie in at least one scene.)

Do not miss Up in the Air! This was an excellent film with absolutely superb acting.

Agree with the good comments about Inglorious Basterds and finally figured out why they misspelled 'Basterds'

Has anybody seen the original The Inglorious Bastards? I thought it was a lot more fun than Tarantino's film.

Here's a clip:

I've got the original on DVD, but I struggle to appreciate it - I'm not sure how seriously it's taking itself; and we're spoiled by better production values these days.

I much prefer Quentin's film (even with the surprising number of continuity errors; I'm sure they're deliberate and mean something deep).

Also, I love Tarantino's homage of Pabst - because Pabst's films with Louise Brooks are some of my all-time favourites.

BTW, a very good forum for information about movies as well as exchanging opinions about movies is the Internet Movie Database (http://www.imdb.com/search).

it is a very extensive DB that had data on virtually every movie ever made.
