Lighting options for 7th gen kindle?
^What it says on the tin. It's a hassle trying to maneuver and hold a flashlight, stylus, and kindle, if I wake up in the night and want to read till I can fall asleep again. What lighting options are available to me, and how do they stack up? For preference, I'm looking for something handsfree (attached to the kindle in some way), that either has it's own internal batterypack (allowing me to plug it in and charge on it's own), or that can plug in and utilize the kindle's own power in some way. I definitely don't want to deal with watch batteries (expensive, and a constant drain on funds), and anything external that attached and used anything else would both create issues trying to find a functional charger, and dramatically alter the weight (even triple A's would unbalance the kindle.)
What options are available to me, and am I just barking in the dark wanting something that doesn't need an external set of batteries to constantly charge/replace? Are options drawing on the kindles own power even available? If not, what am I best off looking for? |

How about a headlamp; the kind used for camping and hiking?

I agree. If you want lighting, get a frontlit Kindle. It'll be vastly better.

I had looked at the Kindle Basic with not light and at the PW2 and I did some looking around for lights. Then I went to Best Buy and compared the voyage, PW2, and the basic. Then I watched the amazon site and got the PW2 on a special at $20 dollars off. I could not be happier. I would have loved to have the voyage but I just could not justify the extra cost. So I got the PW2 and the nice Kindle case for it and it is working great for me.

Just so you know this is not an option. The older kindles had special connections on the back to plug into amazon's lighted covers so that the covers' lights could be powered by the kindle itself. The newer kindles do not have these connections.

I bought a couple of these for my unlit Kobo Mini's a few weeks ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Great-Deal-Rea...rds=book+light They work real well, slipping between the cover and the reader. I've used booklights for older Kindles and these have better more even light than the ones I've used in the past. But that was a long time ago. Maybe they've all improved by now. Last week I sold both of my Kobo Mini's to neighbors and threw in the lights and covers. The people using them seem to like these lights also. Barry |

I didn't know that. I did have an M-Edge cover and light. Having covers with pockets for their lights was pretty clever. I bet they were steamed when the Paperwhite came out.
