Free Fridays novel from Barnes & Noble - Dark Legacy
Title: Dark Legacy by Anna DeStefano
Description: Fans of the blockbuster film Inception will love this week’s Free Fridays selection: Dark Legacy. Anna DeStefano’s complex novel relies on a similar framework of dream theory and questions of identity that made Inception such an irresistible film. In Dark Legacy, sisters Maddie and Sarah share a unique psychic gift that puts them at great danger from a covert government agency called Trinity. The agency has kept the sisters apart for ten years, intent on harnessing their shared powers. But when their dual-consciousness is restored, the sisters find that there’s a new, dangerous element that wasn’t there before. DeStefano’s novel is an insightful psychological thriller of the first order. You can continue the adventures of these powerfully gifted sisters in the just-released sequel, Secret Legacy. |

Please tell me something about the Free Fridays program: Does BN make a different selection available each week? What genre of books are selected or does the genre vary based on the week? What sorts of novels are selected I take it that NY Times best sellers are not selected? Is there a section of the bn web site that details the program and will always point to the current selection?

They are a variety of books. I think I've seen mysteries and so forth, but it's 90% of the time romance, it seems. Probably because women are such a huge part of the e-book market. And they are a dime a dozen so it's easy to sell them for free.

Sometimes it is a book already free, sometimes a book newly free that day (and often not free at Amazon, in that case). Sometimes it is annotated classics.

Occasionally they do a double-freebie feature by supplementing the regular one with a B&N Classics edition or something from their in-house "Sterling Publishing" imprint. Mind you, lately they've gotten more "exclusive" freebies, such as the sf/fantasy novels from Night Shade Books and some feature-to-promote-new-release-sequel stuff from other publishers which doesn't pop up in the other stores until later/not at all. And I think they might be trending towards doing more of that, with the new "Free Fridays Recommends" where they now ask the feature author to recommend some favourite e-books for the reader to buy.
