Importing PDFs, using filename and using PDF cover
Calibre seems to offer a choice of extracting title and author information from "metadata" in a file or from the filename on disk (in Windows), depending on a selection box in preferences > input/output > "use metadata from file contents ... "
For PDFs, when this selection is checked, the title is often very different from the filename (and relatively useless, requiring editing I would like to avoid). I want to use the filename. But when I uncheck the box, Calibre stops generating thumbnails for its GUI after importing the PDF. So it seems, when one is importing a PDF, one has an unfortunate choice between using the disk filename as the title or getting Calibre to generate a nice cover for the book for its GUI. Is there a way to both use the filename from the file and get Calibre to generate a thumbnail from the cover of the book? |

get the metadata from the filename and after importing use the bulk edit metadata tool to set the cover from the file.
