French titles lose accents when saved

Hi,

Although the title shows like this in calibre:
ALLAIS, Alphonse - Le mariage manqué ...

... when I save it to disk, I get:
ALLAIS, Alphonse - Le mariage manque

I've tested it with txt, htm and pdf (converting to epub).
The accent is also stripped in the calibre's folder.
The files convert correctly.

In Prefs > Adding Books,
the option 'Read metadata from file contents rather than file name'
is unchecked.
I am using 0.8.20

Any help ?

Calibre does not allow for paths and filenames to include non-ascii characters. This is because calibre runs on a number of different platforms that use a number of different file systems. Not all platforms and filesystems support unicode characters. It's easier to simply confine the path and filenames to a set of characters that are known to work across all systems calibre can run on.

When using save to disk you can ask calibre to reserve non ascii characters via Preferences->saving to disk. Note this *only* applies to the save to disk action.

Thanks for both replies, and thanks for your dedication, kovidgoyal.
The method you indicated works, of course.
