Issues with Headings

Hello,

I'm having some issues with headings, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm turning a file from Open Office Writer into an ebook...

1) Page Breaks Not Working

In Writer, I've created a style for headings that includes page breaks (selecting: insert->page->before), yet on export in Calibre only a few of them actually work.

They are recognised as headings and appear in the table of contents

2) Dots (•) appear on Left of all Headings

3) Sub-Chapters ("Heading 2") are not centralised as per their settings, sitting awkwardly near the middle but not properly centralised

Do an extra Save As in docx and import that.

Also OpenOffice is dead. Replaced years ago by Libre office, but same procedure applies.

I edit in odt format and do an extra save in docx, for over 10 years.

It also helps if you auto insert a ToC. Edit the settings so ........................ 124 etc isn't added.

Make sure to only use styles.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. Unfortunately these don't appear to be working...

When I try to convert it as a .doc file I get the error: "No supported formats"

Is "Force auto-generated..." the means of auto inserting a ToC? I tried that but the issues I listed still occur.

By only using styles do you mean to have everything in the ODT set according to styles?

Save as .docX.

And use Styles irrespective of what final media you're targetting (ink on foolscap → whatever on Kindle/Kobo etc), this has been best practice for 40 years or more.

Yes, docx, not doc.

^^^^
What BetterRed writes.

No direct formatting whatsover.

Even Bold / Italic or whatever of one word or a letter should use a Character style.

Only have one page style (default) for ebooks. Edit a copy if PDFs are needed and then add page styles.
