Any Canadians with a Kindle in here?
Thanks! |

If your library has Mobipocket format books, then you can use two readily available scripts (can't name or link them directly due to forum protection considerations, sorry) which give you a Mobipocket-style PID for your Kindle to enter on the library website, and modify the resulting downloaded file very slightly to "trick" the Kindle into acknowledging the .prc file when you load it up.
If your library has ePub/PDF books, they will be ADE-DRM-ed, and you will have to break and strip the DRM and convert the ePubs before you can read them on the Kindle. It is not hard, and you can find the tools for doing so in the same place you would find the Mobipocket modification scripts. Fortunately, this is all still legal in Canada, despite the efforts of our useless sellout Heritage Minister, and if you want to keep it this way, please be sure to write your MP to indicate your opposition to Bill C-32, or any other bills which try to introduce a US-style DMCA which will benefit the corporations down south at the expense of Canadian fair use rights. Hope this helps, and welcome to MobileRead! Last edited by ATDrake; 10-29-2010 at 01:32 PM. |

The easiest and cheapest way is to buy a Kobo at Chapters/Indigo. With the money you save reading library books, the $149 for the Kobo will be a terrific investment quickly.

It is possible. I've done it with the Van Pub Lib. although the specifics are not allowed to be discussed in this forum. Google is your friend, the answers are out there, I found them.

Does VPL loan out ebook directly? Are you referring to books from http://downloads.bclibrary.ca?
