Fiction about fiction

Tonight I was browsing through older files on my reader and reread a short story that I especially enjoyed, Eight Episodes. Which reminded me of a couple of other shorts that I first read at around the same time that also are themed around exciting alternate worlds in which one would love to be sitting around watching television.. Impossible Dreams and Magic For Beginners.

While the theme of alternate worlds sounds exciting, I wonder what it has to do with fiction about fiction? I thought you meant stories about books or something like that...

Two of the stories are about TV series that don't exist. The third is about movies that don't exist.

If on a winter's night a traveler, by Calvino is a classic in this genre. I didn't like it but many love it.

Better, I think is Borges short fictions and and Paul Auster's novellas. Love 'em.

Of course you can't go wrong with 100 years of Solitude by Marquez.
