Keeping track of Read Status
I am wondering what method most are currently using to keep track of read/reading status of Kindle books in Calibre.

I use a true/false custom column and have things set so anything marked as read has red text (see attached).

I use the custom column "Date Last Read" with a Day-of-Week, DD, Mmm, YYYY format.
If the date is blank, I have never read the book. Any real date shown is the last time I read the book. Knowing the date I last read a book is more important than a T/F answer because some books are more easily remembered. Despite that, beloved books can be read and re-read regardless of how little/much time has passed. While the date is overkill, sometimes if I want to return to a book I looked at recently, I know it was a certain day of the week, not the exact date, so I can look for that day of the week. The format... well, I kind of like the European(?) standard more than the American one. PS: I use two ratings columns. One is the standard calibre rating which gets filled by downloaded metadata, the second is my personal rating of the book. I like to see if I agree with the fan-base. ![]() Last edited by Sabardeyn; 01-26-2016 at 06:49 PM. |

I use the rating system to tell me whether I've read it or not. I'm not particularly concerned about dates. I rather like AnemicOak's method. How do you make them red if they are read?

I use a custom true/false column, 'Read', which is actually tri-state. No mark means I have the book (probably a freebie) but I don't have a plan to read it. Marked 'N' means I plan to read it, but haven't yet. And 'Y' means that I have read it.
I rather regret not having used a 'last read' date column instead (or as well?), but I'm not going to change now. |

I use:
The first and third columns are automatically populated with KoboUtilities. The rating is got from the device too. And for number of readings, I've made a plugin that copy the book to another library and increases the number of readings. |
