Should I open it? (Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight)
I've got a Walmart-clearanced $75 NST with Glow - brand new in sealed box. I'm hesitating on opening it.
I bought it because 90% of my purchased library is with B&N, thanks to them finally importing the Fictionwise customers, and my family buys me B&N gift cards. I do my on-the go reading on my Sony T2 - it's loaded with hundreds of TBR books via Calibre. I sideload 1-2 books to a Kindle PW2 for night reading, plus occasional Overdrive borrows or Amazon freebies. I don't love the Kindle interface, but once I'm in a book I almost forget that I dislike the fonts and layout. I know this model has the perk of additional storage space and SD card. Does the NST+G show the book cover in sleep mode? Can I load my own fonts without rooting? Anything else that might compel me to open this up rather than return it? |

I found this for the NST (it's 2 years old)... But I guess it probably won't work on the GlowLight?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1286456 Much easier to do this on the Kindle. ![]() |

It can be rooted, and then you can run cool reader or mantano, and add your own fonTs to that. |

You can however load your own images for the screensaver. I have a Nook Glowlight mostly for similar reasons that my Fictionwise transfer expanded my library and it's convenient to see my purchases. I think it is inferior in functions to my T2 and KPW2. Those are my go-to readers, and I rarely use my Nook Glowlight. I also can easily read my Nook books in the Nook app on my iPad Mini now. If it were less than $50 I'd probably say keep it but at $75 it doesn't offer much advantage. I think you would find it too simple. Hope that helps! Flip a coin if it comes down to it!

Having random books for covers (or laboriously switching one cover out via the computer each time) is not nearly the same functionality as auto-showing the currently-open book, almost like a pbook-cover.
![]() I question the utility of such a thing. |

Thanks everyone. I'm pretty sure it's going back. It doesn't seem to have anything compelling enough to either replace or supplement what I already have. I paid $44 for my PW2, so the a nook seems hideously overpriced
![]() I've noticed my iPad 2 battery life is getting awfully short, so I should probably start saving for that replacement. Last edited by simplyparticular; 06-17-2014 at 10:25 PM. |

To be honest, after having a T2 and a PW2, you probably would have found the interface of the nook not to your liking.

The old (not the new) Nook glowlight light has major issues and the screen is not as clear as the Nook ST. I would save your money. De-Drm your books and read them on your Sony / Kindle. And put that $70 towards buying a better e-reader. The new Nook Glowlight (the white one) isn't that much more.
