Getting fed up with our neighbours' redecoration efforts.

Three weeks ago we got a note from our neighbours that they were going to be redecorating their bathroom and that it could be noisy, though they were going to try to keep to work hours not to disturb anyone too much.

We're now in week 4 and they are still going strong. They did move a wall in the bathroom for more space, so pipes and drains had to be moved. But since last week they are definitely not working on the bathroom. They are often drilling in our shared wall and the bathroom is on the other side of the house. It sounds like they are now working in the attic.

Right now it sounds like they are sanding again. The noise isn't constant, but it's daily. On weekdays often starting shortly after 7am and they're also working on the weekend, though they do wait until 10am. There have been several times they were working after 10pm.

I've taken to wearing my noise cancelling headphones during the day, unless, like today, I'm expecting packages.

Someone on my neighborhood Facebook page has just posted that her pit bull mix who growls and is mostly deaf with poor vision has been escaping lately when she's tied up. Just to let us know.

I'm furious. There are a lot of kids and pets as well as a blind man in my neighborhood who could be especially vulnerable to a stray pittie -- or just scared out of their wits. I wouldn't like to be approached by her myself, no matter how "sweet" (the owner's word). I don't like to insert myself into neighborhood contretemps but in the absence of other comments, I felt I had to point out the issue here.

I like dogs, but I frequently hate their owners.

As of now, the owner of the pit bull mix has dug in and is getting all the support and sympathy. Only one neighbor, whose border collie was once attacked by a neighborhood dog, has liked my post. As I typed, I knew it was probably a bad idea....

I'm somehow rather uncertain that a neighbour when the pittie mauls a human or animal or even scares the bleep out of a child by attempting to be friendly would feel nothing but sympathy for the owner.

Around here, if your dog escapes and is running around off leash, Animal Control tends to ask questions like "Why haven't you done anything to improve your dog's containment?" and "Would you prefer to pay your fine online, over the phone or in person at City Hall?"

Yep, we have all had those moments, but in this case keep going.

Sometimes I think that residents, in an attempt to be friendly and easy-going, encourage bad behaviour from morons who don't know how to show mutual respect to their neighbours.

I don't have issues with dogs in general, but I do have issues with incessantly barking dogs and uncontrollable dogs where the owner can barely keep them contained. I hate jogging in my local park to either be growled at by a dog or have them jump on me (in a friendly way) only to have the owner yell "it's ok, he won't hurt you". Yea, but what makes you think I want your dirty dog all over me!!!

That owner should be responsible and ensure her dog can't escape. I don't care about the temperament, pit bulls can be dangerous. NO dog, regardless of breed, should be running around loose and unsecured.

I don't like dogs barking at me any more than I would like the owners to come up to me and snarl in my face. Would they excuse that by saying that they "don't bite"?

And what about inconsiderate owners who don't notice/don't care that their dogs bark constantly when they are left at home?

And since this is the rant thread, let me tag on: People who slam doors shut. When I exit my apartment (since I have to lock from the outside anyway) I pull the door quietly shut while using my key to pull the latch open, then double lock. I know, this takes another two seconds out of my daily rituals.

I'm with you with the slaming doors.

I think some owners are immune to barking, It's bad enough when the dog is home alone, but when they are outside and the owner is right next to the dog and it barks their head off I have to bite my tong to not ask if they don't hear the barking, I would expect them to at least admonished the dog, it may ignore it but at least it looked like the owner cared.
And when you talk to some owners about the incessant barking the usual response is that their dog doesn’t bark.

Thanks for all the good wishes!

It's healing and I'm upright again (for those who don't know, you have to spend the days after the surgery facedown, 24 hours a day). So now I'm waiting on the bubble to dissipate so I can see out of the eye again but the worst is behind me, I hope!

My home guest wireless SSID is an ever-changing variation on SHUTYOURDOGUP, URDOGISSTILLBARKING, or BARKBARKBARK.

Nothing annoys me more than to be barked at (or charged) while I'm on my own (dogless) property.

Heck; just wait till (or if) you need a vitrectomy. This is the replacement of the fluid in the eye. Due to the presence of a gas bubble in the eye you have to keep the head down for several weeks post surgery.
