Were HC's books not previously available to libraries, or is this simply a new licensing model for them?

It's a new model for some of their backlist titles. It's kinda like renting the title for each borrower. I'm pretty sure the rates are much cheaper than an outright purchase.

I vastly prefer Freading to Hoopla, as the books can be sideloaded to my devices and don't have to be read on an app. |

Exciting news FLP is the only one I know that does Hoopla that I'm a member too. I wish more libraries would jump on board. There is a ten limit a month. Right now it's my main use for audiobooks.

This is interesting. Can't be sure without seeing exact pricing terms, but it definitely strikes me as an improvement over the current pricing model. Wonder if they'll offer similar terms through Overdrive in Canada?

The HC books are now available on Hoopla.
(For some reason that page is slow to load a lot of the time.) Last edited by jhowell; 07-05-2017 at 09:43 PM. |

To be the most library friendly, every publisher needs to have these "rental" licenses, plus a more expensive perpetual license. This would allow the library to buy a lot of the rental type at first release, and much more limited number of the perpetual version. |

A big difference is that with the old model the 26 checkouts had to be sequential and for one specific book. The new model allows them be be simultaneous and used for any book in the collection.
