Vent and Rant - Editing on Android
in particular Honeycomb but in general. Anyone else hate it?
The one thing I'm truly hating is trying to select, edit text. The new Android 3.0 (honeycomb) text selection is supposed to be easier, but either way I can never get the stupid cursor(s) to select what I want. Very unresponsive and difficult! |

Yup, my experience too. It's probably my biggest complaint with Android.

I wonder how this is different. On the Droid X, to edit you touch the screen and a red bulls eye like dot appears. You run your finger in any direction and it magnifies the words you are scrolling through and you stop where you need to.
I love it and my apple iphone friends are very jealous of it. but don't know it that is a Moto thing or Android and if Honeycomb supports that. It's really cool and easy to use. With all my typo's I can live without it. |

Yeah that is one area of all of these touch screen devices that don't work well, or as well as a computer device.
I don't have a honeycomb device, but on my 2.2 devices I find highlighting the word works best, do not try to when you highlight make sure to select the word, not the space between a word. Then use the tags to move the cursor or select the word. |

I think mine is Samsung-specific but works like a dream. When you tap you get a little blue tag hanging down off the cursor that makes it very easy to drag to the place you want. That and Swype for quick text entry is excellent.

Yes -- my biggest frustration! I have been practicing with the green "tabs" for copy and paste with some success. With the slight delay it is problematic.
My biggest problem is cursor placement. I recently "shared" a link from a news website via email. In the body I tried and tried in vain to place the cursor above the link to add a salutation and note. Couldn't do it. So I had to compose a new email and manually insert the link after the fact. Or simply try to place the cursor for text correction! |

interesting this is a Moto thing but not on the Xoom but I guess the xoom runs pure stock Android, if I'm not mistaken and Moto has no skin whatsoever.
That would explain why it wouldn't be on the Xoom Great feature though. |

There's got to be a way to overcome this frustration without pulling our hair out. Did the developers not type at all?

I don't think so. If it only had arrow keys to move the cursor, that would help....hell even the msdos command screen is easier.
