covers have disappeared

Hi,

I'm using Calibre for more than one month now, and everyday. I love this software.
I use Calibre on my main computer and my tablet. My library folder is sync in dropbox.
Everything was ok until now. But now all my covers are not showing, instead I've got the cover book icon brown and when i want to read a ebook it tells me that there is no format. I checked every single folder of every book, the cover.jpg is there and the epub file.

Can someone help me to find a way to make all the covers and format appeared again ?

Don't know how it could have been possible but in my dropbox calibre folder all the covers and epub were deleted and I don't know how ! So I restored all of them and now everything's ok

Until next time - see I am getting errors with my calibre library on a networked drive/NAS?

Dropbox (and similar services) are effectively a network drive, before starting calibre disable Dropbox Syncing, and re-enable it after exiting calibre.

Yes, I had read the link about sync devices and I chose dropbox because it said that it would be ok to use it for sharing.
Now I understood why all my covers and epub inside each folder on every single book were deleted : when I was using Calibre on my tablet I have change the sort list of author by setting it in "key author" and on my computer it was set by author name.

Is "using Calibre on my tablet" a reference to Calibre Companion on an Android tablet? If it is then I wouldn't have thought that changing the order of books in CC would change the content of what's in Dropbox. You might want to raise that in the CC forum.

But that said, the 'golden rule' is :- if you keep your library on a cloud service, ensure you disable syncing when the calibre library manager is running, and I would guess if you're running any Command Line features that update the library.

CC does not ever write to the cloud and it does not use dropbox-synced local copies of files. There is no way it can alter the library in the cloud.

The problem happened the next use right after I changed the order list on my tablet. In the "calibre library" in my dropbox, I had two folders for each book. One with the surname and name (author sort), and the other with the name "," and surname (key author). That's why I guess the problem was from that.

What I did : delete the library after saved it. On my computer the library sync is named "calibre library computer", and on my tablet Calibre I created a copy of the computer's one andnamed "calibre library tablet".

@chaley - That was my assumption, but not being a CC user I couldn't be a 110% certain. I was hoping you'd chime in

I'm going to drop out of the thread, hoping you can assist the OP further. I have an inkling of what's going on, but a) you're in the same timezone as the OP, b) your French is way better than mine, and c) you know exactly how calibre, dropbox, and CC interact, where as I can only hypothesise
