Almost all car adaptors and chargers in Retail here are USB-A sockets.

Many laptops and PCs have only one or no USB-C sockets.

Also cheap USB-C plug to USB-A socket adaptors exist for OTG, but they do work for charging.
I disagree. My laptop does have 1 USB-C. The car has two USB-C, the charger I use has two USB-C. The plug extender in the bedroom has 1 USB-C. The portable battery charger has 1 USB-C. My wife's iPhone came with a USB-C to lightning cable.

But, one thing to note. USB-C is usually going to be more powerful and this charge faster.

I never said she did. I suggested that someone she know might have a spare USB-C to USB-C cable.

I have a lot more USB-A chargers then USB-C chargers. Out and about, I didn't notice any USB-C chargers. I take USB-A cables, please.

When out and about and I take my backup battery, the USB-C to USB-C cable comes with it. My phone and Kobo can be charged with it.

I used to take a USB-A to microUSB and had an adapter to gtom from MicroUSB to Lightning and MicroUSB to USB-C adapter. that worked to not have to take multiple cables.

The charging speed is also limited by the device. I don't know of any kobo that actually takes more than 7.5W (1.5A, though they recommend a 5V 2A charger = 10W). A 20W or 100W USB charger will only charge at 7.5W (5V @ 1.5A) if that's the maximum the device takes.

You are an outlier. Also there are plenty of USB-C chargers that are not 100W or even not more than 15W.

While 7.5W and 10W USB-A chargers are the most common there are several protocols for 3A at 5V, and also for 9, 12V and 20V charging on a USB-A 2.0 cable up to 30W.

The reason for the 100W charger is to be able to have plenty of power for multiple device charging such as an iPad Pro, phone, Reader, etc.

Most chargers won't do that. That would need two chargers in the one box.
Two modest chargers will be much cheaper, able to charge in two places and more likely to work.
A 100W charger is for a laptop.

A 100W charger is for a laptop.
It will also charge a MacBook Air M2.

The other advantage to this charger is that is has multiple plug types so it's great for going on vacation where you need other plug types.

The other thing is a lot of lesser powered adapters are not that much different in price. So why get them instead?

A 100W charger is for a laptop.
The 165W multi-port charger I'm currently using at home has 1 USB-C port that can supply up to 65W which would allow me to use it to replace my small laptop charger in an emergency. The other three USB-C ports and the 2 USB-A ports can supply 20W maximum. At one point for the heck of it, I plugged my laptop into the PD port and 5 other devices (iPad, iPhone, Kobo Sage, Lenovo M8 FHD, Xfinity flashlight) into the others. The charger started sucking about 1.2 amps from the 120V AC (nominal) line and after 5 minutes was noticeably warm but didn't get much warmer over 20 minutes. An advantage to using gallium nitride instead of silicon.

On a related note, my 145W laptop adapter (affectionately known as the brick) uses GaN and is noticeably cooler when powering my laptop and docking station than the 65W adapter powering the laptop alone.
