I think they may have just obsoleted the Paperwhite.

But as others have pointed out, the UK site says (likely in error) that EPUB is supported natively. |

I disagree. The device does not support it.
The "support" you talk of is an outside thing, it is a service provided by Amazon that is completely separate from the device itself. The device knows nothing - zilch - about the formats it supposedly "supports through conversion". If Amazon starts charging for the service, limits it only to books purchased from Amazon, or drops it entirely - could it still be said that the device "supports the format"? Can you sideload a book in this "supported format"? No. Because the device does not actually support the format, except through the magic of misleading marketing jargon. |

It's kind of like the iPhones that kept getting bigger and bigger. Eventually a segment of the market rebelled and Apple was forced (via market pressure) to start offering smaller iPhones again. Not everyone can (or wants to) fit something the size of a home theater setup into their pocket. |

I'm very curious to know if the screen sharpness is better than that of the PW5. And if they also have the same performance. If the answer is yes, I'll trade my PW5 for it. I'm just sad that there is no white option

Oh great, now the Oasis seems like even more of a hard sell for those interested in upgrading.
8 GB of storage with no USB-C, with a slightly bigger screen than the current Paperwhite, when the basic model of Kindle has 16 GB of storage now and not only has USB-C, but also a 300 PPI display. Basically, the base model is now better in some ways than the Oasis. At least it is a good upgrade for people still using the Paperwhite 2 and 3. |

This is a case of government meddling in places where they don't belong. Ten years from now, when USB-C is old school and has been replaced by better technology, Europe will still be stuck with it because of their ill-advised new law. There are not a whole lot of things dumber than politicians mandating technology. |

But I agree that Amazon will have to upgrade the Oasis fast, or drop it altogether. Last edited by Sirtel; 09-13-2022 at 06:08 PM. |

Agreed. You might as well say that every eReader supports every format — so long as you can convert it.

No, they just made a nice upgrade for their bottom line eReader. 300 dpi screen up from 167 dpi (which never made sense) is a big jump. If I was going to buy a new eReader from Amazon (I'm not in the market) this is the one I would go for (provided it was on sale for about $80). This puts Amazon well ahead (in specs) in the low-end market. I'm curious to see how good (or not) the lighting is for this one.
