I suggest you go with Kobo for a better then Kindle. The UI on Kobo is so much better then the UI on Kindle. I have a Kobo and access to a Kindle with the new firmware and Kobo is so much better. |

Kind of a low bar, but true none the less.
I've been very happy with my boox poke3. Their internal reader is only so/so, but you can activate the google play store and use whatever you want. I even checkout library books with libby. You can even pretend it's a kindle by installing the kindle app. They also have a color model, but as was mentioned, color is kind of meh. |

There is no best. What's best depends on the user and their needs/preferences.
I moved from Kindle to Kobo and love my Kobo readers, but I wouldn't necessarily say they're the best option for everyone. It very much depends on your use case and what you expect from your ereader. |

All brands have good e-readers. As has been rightly said, it depends on needs and preferences. To cite a few of a similar size:
Onyx Boox: Leaf 2. Kobo: Libra 2. PocketBook: Era. (Kindle: PW 5). |
