I am guessing that you are using an LCD tablet. Just like computers they have always been known for causing eye strain over time. My solution is to do most of my reading on an Android eink device. I use Moon+ Pro which syncs my reading spot across my devices so that I can open my book in any of my eink devices, my Android tablet or my smartphones and continue reading from where I left off.

Sorry, I can't answer your initial question about anti glare screens. I have used them because of the sun but never thought about a possible reading benefit..........Jackie

Ciao if you are not kidding and do not want to search in the internet the world eink, is an ereader, the difference with the screen lcd is that the light does not come from the screen to your eyes, and it looks like reading kind of paper.
on the other side are slower than a tablet but the battery last ages, so it looks more like a book experience.
if you read more than 2 hour per day or you work beyond a pc, you want to buy them to read books. Mobileread forum is in my advice the best informative place in the world about them.

If you are not interested in eink you can obtain a partial result applying a matte film to your tablet, look in the internet or a shop for them but your eyes will not say you thank you like if you read an eink. cheers

I have the Nexus 7 tablet and I searched Amazon and got a anti-glare screen protector to go on my tablet it helps but I still cannot read ebooks on it for more than 30 mins at a time. So I ended up getting the Kindle e-ink reader for my ebook reading, and I do not have issues with my eyes anymore.

A few things to try on your Android screen.

1. Reduce brightness (your reading app should let you control this)
2. Try "night" mode - this usually reverses the contrast so you are looking at white or green text on a black background. I find this easier to read in bright light and also works great to let me read without disturbing my partner late at night.

If you still find the glare tiring, you should try a dedicated e-ink reader. Tablets work fine for me, but there are a lot of people who find e-ink easier on the eyes.

and I would also add that there are some researches regarding the effect of LCD screens on the eyes. Personally speaking it is clear that I have issues on reading on LCD screens, and it looks as I am not alone seeing the comments in this and numerous other threads

I use anti glare screen protectors for all my devices because I am very sensitive to light. I am so sensitive that even the glare on the screen reflected back into my eyes give me a problem. If turning brightness down and using dark backgrounds helps you, an anti glare screen protector might help as well. Here's what I am using on my Tab S, and I have used this brand on other devices as well - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...rch_detailpage

today I bought a nice aspire netbook, that is supposed to be used for reading, well it has a really comfortable matte screen, while instead almost all the light laptop have glossy display(??) take apple for instance.
I am saying that because I am a bit surprised does not exist a matte you can touch the screen. Maybe people could love a tablet matte. But I guess there are technological limits.

More recent studies have shown that it has far less to do with the "screen technology" and far MORE to do with the quality of the image produced by the screen (which is the screen technology, obviously, but I'm trying to make a distinction here between the long held assumption and the new world of quality screens we have moved into and continue to move into).

Try to read with a tilted angle, ie; do not place phone screen perpendicular to your eyes

What is root cause I am scratching my head, I can do day long computer programming and at-least 2 hours continuously without a break and no headache but when i read from phone eye strain would begin just after 30 minute, i wonder its the LCD screen, reading posture or screen distance.

It could be a number of things that make it easier for you to use your computer screen. All these questions are about your computer screen and use.

What type of screen is it? Most are LCD.

Is your screen shiny or is it an anti glare screen?

Is the room well lit or dark?

What is your brightness level set to?

What font do you use, and how large is your font size?

What color is your background and what color is your font?

What is the screen resolution?

If you compare all these to how you have your phone set up you may find your answer.

Well, phone screens tend to be quite a bit smaller, the smaller elements on screen may cause more eye strain. It could also be that when you hold your phone you have to look down at it to read. This is an ergonomic compromise that very frequently causes neck/shoulder/head pain. Very common.

Could also be where you read. Do you have back support? Are you lying down with a pillow propped behind your head? Are you standing? Sitting on the bus/subway? Etc. All of these scenarios have ergonomic pitfalls that accompany them. And it is only a myth that you have to do something in the wrong ergonomic position for HOURS to feel any pain. You may feel it rather quickly, it all just depends.

Thanks for summing up, I want to understand couple of things,

1. what difference have LCD vs LED? I think most smartphones are LCD based today.

2. And how does the screen resolution make a difference?

I agree that head aligned to spine is a better posture when sitting, I mostly read sleeping in a foetus mode, I will always zoom fonts or use Opera browser for web stuffs so i guess font size shouldnt be an issue.
