Nice find Guy!

I guess we'll find out this Christmas the destiny of LCD devices. The people have said that they want readers under $100, and the LCD crowd is giving it to them.

Hmm. When they hit $50 or so, I'll buy one as a spare ereader to see what all the fuss is about. If nothing else, it would be useful for guests whenever I have them. At $100, it's still just expensive enough not to be worthwhile to spend the money when I live alone.

The box said that it supports Adobe DRM
The pictures only showed a limited color range, which is interesting. It might mean
that the display has a switchable backlight and is otherwise a reflective TFT.

Without a manufacturer's name and model and/or the developer's web site, I would
give it a pass for now.

Luck;
Ken

It looks like it comes from EKEN in China, and they look to be knocking them out in various places, including on ebay with at least a 100% mark-up

Is this a Windows CE device? There seem to be lots of 7" CE tablets around these days.

It does look like the E003 EKEN listed except for the larger (7") display and a larger
2100mAh battery. So we still can't be sure about the display's tech characteristics,
the others on the page look like full color backlit TFT, to me.

Luck;

So if these can be bought wholesale in modest quantities for under $60, why does everyone believe Amazon is selling the Kindle 3 at $139 "below cost"?!?

Because if consumers acknowledged how much we're being overcharged for everything these days, there would be a revolution.

This video about Seven-inch EKEN tablet:

"The company did say that the Windows CE 6.0 version costs approximately $2.20 more than the Android-ready model, or $11 extra if users want a web browser to be included."

I think this ebook reader based on Android OS.

Dealextreme is easy to work with and much of their stuff is high quality.

As for a brand name, it does not seem to mean a lot. The Chinese seem to have mixed Communist and Capitalist and come up with a system that allows for rapid advancement in quality. They seem to buy the same pieces and parts, build the device, add a feature or two that makes it a bit different, then slap their name on it. There are dozens of high end flashlights with identical bodies, end caps, and in some cases heads, but they all are a little bit different - and getting more expensive.

Those prices include shipping (at least to Canada)...but not duty/taxes (if more than $20 for Canada).
